Welcome to the second half of the school year! The students have been learning about long vowel sounds using 'Mean Kind Ed.' Ask your child what this means! They have also been learning such glued sounds as -unk, -ink, -ing, -ong, -ang, -ank, and -ung. So far, they are doing well with these new concepts!
In addition, The students have been learning about community helpers and their role in the community. Next week, they will be visiting the police station, fire station, and library in order to meet some of our very own Hanover community helpers!
In science, the students will be studying light and sound. For example, both travel in frequencies and waves and can be interrupted by objects. Also, some objects can produce light and/or sound while others cannot!
In math, the students have been learning how to balance equations. For example, 5+3 = 6+2. The students need to understand that the value on each side of the equation must be the same. Another example of what they are working on includes 10-7=___+4. Using manipulatives and visuals helps with his concept. Please have your child practice addition and subtraction math facts at home!
The students are also being asked to write more in their expressive language. On a given topic, they are expected to write 3 or more well crafted sentences with appropriate end marks and capitalization. Soon, they will be working on opinion and expository writing. Please have your child practice writing at home. He or she can use his or her own 'special' notebook or journal!
I cannot express enough how enjoyable these students are! They are truly caring and are eager, vibrant learners!
